‘By the river with the bairns’ is a song written by Tom Kelly & Ian Ravenscroft of the collective artistes known as the ‘Men of the Tyne’.

The Men of the Tyne are Tom Kelly, Ted Cuskin, Ian Ravenscroft & Ron Smith.

They formed after they collaborated through a North and South Tyneside community project in 2011 organised by The Customs House South Shields and Age UK. The project invited members of the community who had worked on or around the River Tyne, to join in on workshops to tell stories and share their memories and archive photographs, celebrating the achievements of those people who gave the area a proud history.

The ‘Men’ now tour different venues within the North East performing their songs, stories and showcase the film produced through the ‘Men of the Tyne projects.
